The PALS mentoring program matches law students of color with practicing attorney mentors who serve as a professional development resource to their student mentee. PALS Mentors provide support and advice on how to handle the unique challenges confronting law students of color during their law school tenure.
These relationships are intended to last throughout each students’ law school tenure (and in many cases, on a less formal basis beyond law school). One of the many benefits of the PALS mentoring program is its flexibility. Once matched, mentors and mentees are able to tailor their mentoring relationship to their individual needs and interests.
We welcome New York City area attorneys, committed to improving diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, to sign up to become a PALS Mentor. PALS Mentors should be prepared to dedicate 2-4 hours per month to their PALS Mentee.
Attorneys matched through the program will be required to review the PALS Mentoring Manual and sign a Participation Agreement with their mentee.
Please note that the PALS mentoring program has two open enrollment periods for students to apply and obtain a Practicing Attorney Mentor. This period occurs once in the in the fall and then again in the spring. Although we encourage attorneys interested in mentoring to volunteer now, you may not receive a mentee until after each open enrollment period has closed.
